I have always enjoyed how personable God is with us. He speaks to us in the ways we most easily understand. He gives to each of us as He sees fit for our greater good.
Along with that, He is no respecter of persons. He shows no favoritism. He gives, takes, does and doesn’t however He wants, whenever he wants. He and He alone is God.
To the one He gives one talent to the next ten and to the other three. He destines some for special purposes, others for everyday use, and yet others to hold the trash.
One person He completely sets free in a second to the other there’s a long hard struggle for freedom. One gets healed and the next doesn’t. To o ne He speaks clearly and directly to the next He speaks in mystery, only to be revealed in the search.
For as long as I can remember God has told me to dream bigger. Which keeps me on my toes because I have a pretty wild imagination. I was just recently looking at a 1,500-acre luxurious farm retreat for sale. Which only cost 54 million dollars.
The next day I heard it again, “dream bigger.” My thoughts in response probably weren’t the most Christian, “how the actual crap I am supposed to dream bigger than this? I doubt it possible to but a state.”
But then, it dawned on me after all these years to finally ask why. Why do you want me to keep dreaming bigger?
In that moment all these different things came to mind that seemed “better” to be spending my time thinking or asking for. Like greater love, greater hope, greater faith, greater desire for the lost, greater joy.
Somewhere along the way a connection was made on the similarity between a dream and a promise.
Abraham received a promise then began to dream of its fulfillment. Moses received a promise and began dreaming. The Jewish people received the promise of a savior and spent thousands of years dreaming of that day.
That’s when I realized I had been given a dream but not a promise. So, I asked God for a promise, and He spoke one over me, bringing me to tears.
Sometimes God gives the promise to help His people dream. To others, He gives a dream for a promise to be sought. Either way, dreams and promises both come from God. They are vital for the steadfastness of our walk.
They give us strength in our times of doubt. They give us reason when we want to give up. What has God promised you? What is the dream He has placed inside of you? And if both are missing ask, seek, knock and the door will be opened for you.
