Poetry! You may say, seems a bit out of place. To be one of three most important aspects of life seems misguided. But poetry is more than a rhyming scheme. It’s more than a set number of lines or syllables.
Poetry is the expression of life. It’s life blossomed from death. Order structured from chaos. The hate loved out of marriage.
It’s the underlying time table of seemingly reoccurring events. The crimson chord strung throughout the Bible. It’s the knowing of the beginning from the end. The establishing of history as it’s recorded.
Poetry defines the writer. It marks the page of the painter’s process. It has formed cultures. And has brought low the haughty.
Poetry is the evocation of meaning and emotion. It’s the consummation of passion as love echoes the words, “I do!”. It’s mourning’s eulogy as regret laments, “from dust to dust”. It’s the joy carved into grandpa’s face as he blows out the candles of reminiscence of his short 100 years of life.
It connects every aspect of life as it stands proudly on the roof barking unity to all who hear. It howls a unifying chord for the entire pack to sing. It digs a hole and bears the scars so those that come after have an easier path. It’s the feast the whole kingdom can join in on.
Poetry is freedom. It is order. Poetry is emotion. It is principle.
Poetry is what connects a flower’s color to one’s attraction to another. It is how you describe which path in life you choose to take. It’s the story of how one man’s betrayal leads to another’s indecision and tragedy. It’s the world’s hope held to a cross by three nails.
It explains the interconnectedness of life. It explains our emotions and our world view. It explains the unknown through common experience. It explains the look on your face as you realize, you just read one.
