Let us not just hearers of the word, but doers of it.
It is easy to get caught up on either side of a pendulum. To be on one extreme or the other. When I first started following Jesus, I was ready to backpack the world and tell everyone I encountered about the good news I just received.
In my zeal however, I lacked finesse. My words and actions were often not seasoned with grace, and I left a bad taste in the mouths of many I was shoving Jesus down the mouth of. In this same season, I began seeing the miraculous hand of God move upon the people I was encountering.
Without realizing it, I began to find my identity in works and only felt accepted by God when I saw His hand at work. I lost my love and compassion for those I was ministering to and foolishly began to see them as a testimony. A testimony I could one up the next person with.
After a moment of great conviction, I swung to the other side of the pendulum, stopped doing the work of the gospel and sought understanding, In the coming years, I could count the number of people I prayed for and ministered to on my fingers.
In this most recent previous season of my life, I would ask God what He wanted me to do to which he constantly replied, “Be a father. Be a husband.” My response was usually the same each time, “Ok, I get that but what do you want me to do?”
My natural response was still one of performance (which has been a theme of my life). During this previous season, Holy Spirit began revealing much to me and I was set free from things I didn’t even know I needed freedom from.
I am now entering into a new season, which has been marked by a word of the Lord He just recently spoke to me, “Now, begin to live out all that has been revealed to you.”
It’s easy to believe things. In fact, we believe things we didn’t even know we believed. However, it is not belief that pleases God but faith. We will be held accountable to the we know, for all that’s been revealed to us.
Every revelation from God is an opportunity for faith. An opportunity to not just expand the pegs to our tent but the very Kingdom of God. Our beliefs and revelations are useless if we do not act upon them and will ultimately do us more harm than good if we do not live them out.
There is much to be said and many thoughts to be had about this but for the moment I leave you with this:
What has been revealed to you that needs to be put into action in your life?
